The Upward Movement (often referred to as seat upgradation or sliding) is an integral part of the JAC Chandigarh Counselling process. It allows candidates who have already been allotted a seat to automatically try for a higher preference college or branch in the subsequent counselling rounds, provided they select the FLOAT option.
To be considered for seat upgradation in the subsequent rounds, a candidate must successfully complete all the following steps after their initial seat allotment:
The logic behind the upward movement process is strictly based on the order of preferences you locked during the choice filling phase and your JEE Main merit rank:
During the next round, the system checks for vacancies created by candidates who withdrew, failed to pay fees, or didn't complete document verification. If a vacancy arises in a college/branch that is higher on your preference list than your currently allotted seat, and your merit rank qualifies, you will be upgraded.
Example: If you were allotted your 5th preference and chose FLOAT, the system will only consider you for preferences 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the next round. Preferences 6 and below are ignored.
Candidates opting for the Float option must be aware of the following critical rules:
No, if you have already paid the initial Seat Acceptance Fee after your first allotment, you do not need to pay any extra fee to participate in the upward movement rounds.
No. Once you are upgraded to a higher preference during the upward movement process, your previously allotted seat is automatically cancelled and immediately offered to another candidate.
Candidates who chose the 'Freeze' option, failed to pay the seat acceptance fee, or had their seat cancelled due to failed document verification are not eligible for upward movement.
